Ms Love: I listened to the Steve Harvey radio show in Philly the other day as he interviewed a woman about her music. I was busy on a novel when I heard this velvety, sultry voice that held a hint of foreigner with a large scoop of soul. I stopped what I was doing to listen. Nothing stops me from writing once I get started. I heard a sweet melody flowing from a spiritual tune. Mmmm, mmm, mmm…I listened intently as the song and voice caressed my spirit. A tear fell onto my cheek. I said to myself, thank you…I’ve needed to go there for a long time. When the song was done I tried to catch the name of the singer; Nora Izaborn, Lauren Osborne,… Dammit! What did Steve Harvey say her name was, I said aloud? I was sorry I’d never heard her before. What can I say? I’m a writer who lives in solitude most of the time. I went to Myspace and couldn’t find her. (Didn’t think to Google her but how could I when I didn’t know her name exactly?) I went to Facebook, put what I thought was her name in the search and Bam! There she was. I screamed YES! Her name came up Laura Izibor. I did a little research on her, sent an email asking for an interview and her management team got back to me with the quicks. They agreed to the interview, I sent the questions and here she is…Laura Izibor!
Ms. Love: I don’t usually listen to the Steve Harvey show in Philly USA, but I’m happy I did this time. Tell us who Laura Izibor is in just a few short sentences and what is a moment of inspiration like for you? What do you do when an idea or feeling for a song comes to you?
Laura: I'm a girl who is not into b.s. I am more than ever just being myself. What you see is honestly what you get. Like everybody, I just want to be happy and thankful I have found the one thing that truly makes me feel just that, music!! My inspiration is based more on how I'm feeling in that particular moment. It’s a wave of adrenaline that rushes over me and I just have to be near a piano and vibe it out. I don't spend more than half an hour on each song. Once I have the bones of it, it flows pretty fast and naturally.
Ms. Love: How did it all begin for you? When did you know you possessed this special gift of singing and song writing?
Laura: I started singing by accident, when my teacher in school asked us all to get up and sing as she thought it was a good exercise for our confidence, but at 13 I wanted to do anything but get up and sing on front of 30 teenage girls. Thankfully I did though. From that day on really I started taking voice lessons, which followed with the piano and then the songs just started to come out. And I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Ms Love: What is a day in the life of Laura Izibor, a beautiful woman who just happens to be black, like in Ireland?
Laura: It depends. A work day is always hectic, early mornings, airports, radio stations, interviews; photo shoots all jam packed into one day. At home, it’s usually breakfast with my mam, take the dogs for a walk, write til dinner time, and maybe hit up the cinema with some friends. Not very exciting but that’s how I like it.
Ms Love: Which song is your favorite from your 'Let the Truth Be Told' album and why? My favorite is Mmmm. It came along at such a perfect time in my life and brought spiritually cleansing tears to my eyes. Thanks for that!
Laura: Ah thank you! Mmmm is actually one of my favourites too. Another one is "Don't Stay" which is my next single. It’s a bit of a heart wrencher but its got strength and a feel of survival especially for women...
Ms Love: What does the future hold for Laura Izibor and her music? I'd say it looks wonderfully BRIGHT!
Laura: I hope the future allows me to be as happy and successful as I feel right now, and to spread my music to as many people around the world as I can. I am so blessed and honestly to be able to do what I love is more than enough.
Ms Love: I know you’re busy so I won’t keep you any longer. We’re going to help Laura Izibor spread love around the world right here at InSite Forumotion with “A Moment of InSite.” Thank you so much Ms. Izibor, for your time, spirit and gifted talents! Special thanks to Edison Waters management for Laura Izibor for your prompt response in getting this much appreciated interview with our girl...Look for Laura’s debut album “Let the Truth Be Told’ this April!
Thank you!
